⚡️New Cycle Alert: Dog Days⚡️
This 6 week testing cycle will focus on building foundational strength, improving Olympic lifting proficiency, and developing confidence with handstand pushups.
For strength work, we’ll test the back rack reverse lunge, deadlift, and strict pullup in Week 1, then spend the following weeks progressively building strength through consistent loading and exposure to each movement. In Week 6, we’ll retest all three movements to measure progress from the cycle.
On Wednesdays, our weightlifting sessions focus on the squat clean and split jerk. We’ll build from higher-rep technique work into heavier doubles with an emphasis on improving our receiving position in the clean and developing more stable overhead positions in the jerk.
Tuesday skill sessions are dedicated to handstand pushup development. We’ll progress from kick up mechanics and body positioning to kipping technique, giving members at every level a progression option. Supporting movements will include pike handstand pushups, overhead carries, pressing variations, and pulling strength to build capacity.
Throughout the cycle, benchmark workouts including Reasonable as programmed by member Paul, CrossFit Open 15.5, Lynne, Ellen, Angie, and Grettel will test a wide range of fitness qualities, from strength endurance and gymnastics capacity to barbell cycling and conditioning.
By the end of the cycle, athletes should expect to feel stronger in their foundational lifts, more efficient with the clean and split jerk, and more confident performing and progressing toward handstand pushups, while continuing to build well rounded fitness.
