About Polaris Strength & Conditioning

Built for Real Life

Polaris Strength & Conditioning helps busy adults build strength and confidence that carries into everyday life.

We work with professionals, parents, and former athletes who want to feel strong hiking in the Cascades, chasing their kids, or simply getting through a long workday without aches and setbacks. Our focus isn’t short-term intensity. It’s long-term progress.

We offer:

  • Small-Group Strength & Conditioning
  • Individualized Program Design
  • Personal Training

Every class is intentionally capped to ensure real coaching and personal attention. Whether you’re just getting started or working toward a specific performance goal, we build a plan that fits your life — not the other way around.

Your first step is a No Sweat Intro: a relaxed, pressure-free conversation where we learn about your goals and help you choose the right path forward.

Our Story

Established in 2016.

Polaris Strength & Conditioning grew out of Twenty Pound Hammer, a longtime Seattle CrossFit gym founded with the goal of being the friendliest, strongest gym in the city.

As we evolved, we realized friendliness wasn’t enough.

We wanted to build something intentionally welcoming, structured, and designed for the long haul. We refined our programming, expanded individualized options, and focused more intentionally on small-group coaching and long-term development.

Polaris reflects that evolution — a coaching-first approach built for adults who care more about how they’ll be moving in 20–40 years than what their PR is this month.

While our name has changed, our commitment to thoughtful coaching, strong community, and steady progression hasn’t.

Meet the Owners – Kate and Nate Muller

We believe strength training should support your life for decades — not just the next competition.

We first started training together when we tried CrossFit in 2011. We took an on-ramp class and were both hooked. We loved that we were able to do partner workouts together, combine them with runs around the lake on off days. And we especially loved bringing our kids to the gym when they were born in 2012 and 2015.

In 2020, we took over ownership of our first CrossFit gym, Northwest CrossFit Green Lake. We grew it significantly by focusing on sustainable fitness and a welcoming and supportive coaching staff. In 2025, we added CrossFit Twenty Pound Hammer to our gym family and are growing it with similar intentions while being true to the community here.

More about Kate

Kate has been an athlete since competing in dressage as a high schooler. Kate brings the same long-term perspective to Polaris. She believes strength training should feel empowering, structured, and sustainable — not intimidating or chaotic.

Her focus is on creating a welcoming environment where members feel supported, challenged appropriately, and confident in their progress. Together, we’ve built Polaris to be a place where adults can train seriously — without sacrificing balance.

More about Nate

Nate has been training since his dad first took me to the community center at 15. Over the years, I’ve learned that the best fitness program blends strength, endurance, and consistency.

Nate loves combining strength training with running, and I’m especially motivated by how fitness helps me show up better for my family. That long-term mindset shapes how I coach: build strength that supports real life, for decades.

Why Polaris

Polaris isn’t a franchise.
It isn’t built around trends.
It’s built around people.

We believe:

  • Strength should support your life outside the gym.
  • Coaching should be attentive and intentional.
  • Progress should be steady and sustainable.
  • Community should be motivating — not ego-driven.

Built in Ballard. Inspired by the strength of the Pacific Northwest.
